With over twenty-five years’ experience, Doug Yates is a big picture strategist and brand architect known for launching, building, revitalizing and maximizing some of the world’s most successful entertainment brands.
In his tenure as Head of Marketing, Distribution and Online at San Francisco-based Lucasfilm, Doug successfully managed the iconic Star Wars brand and helped introduce a whole new generation to the Star Wars universe with the global launch of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Most recently, Doug was part of the Global Solutions team at Fox Networks Group (FOX, FX, FOX Sports, National Geographic), where he partnered with CMOs at emerging and blue-chip brands such as Amazon, Airbnb, SoFi and American Airlines to develop and execute custom marketing solutions that leveraged the power of the 21st Century Fox portfolio of assets.
Doug earned his MBA in Marketing from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.
Doug currently functions as a consultant to C-suite executives across multiple business sectors. While part of the Global Solutions team at Fox Networks Group, Doug partnered with CMOs at leading brands to develop and execute custom marketing solutions that included organic brand integrations; custom content and commercials; sports sponsorships; on-site activations; consumer events; technology applications; digital/social campaigns and co-branded products.
Doug’s extensive branding background includes the initial, record-setting launch of FX Networks; the creation of the global Fox Kids brand; the successful evolution of Fox Family Channel into ABC Family; the reinvention of TV Guide Network from a listings service to an entertainment destination and the maximization of the iconic Star Wars brand.
Known for his fresh, out-of-the-box ideas, Doug has rich experience developing and executing award-winning campaigns for major properties and brands. Favorite campaigns include the global launch of Star Wars: The Clone Wars; the theatrical release of Red Tails, George Lucas’ film about the Tuskegee Airmen and TV Guide Network’s red-carpet coverage with Joan Rivers.
Doug has extensive experience building brands and driving revenue across multiple consumer platforms, including television, theatrical, games, digital/social media, consumer products and events. At Lucasfilm, Doug led all global marketing efforts supporting the company’s portfolio of IP, including the iconic Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. Earlier in his career, he managed the global Power Rangers phenomenon, overseeing franchise marketing across all the Fox Kids platforms.
Doug established a Consumer Insights department at Lucasfilm to provide actionable data and qualitative/quantitative research that guided strategic business decisions across all divisions. He oversaw comprehensive brand attitude & usage, ethnographic and audience segmentation studies that identified distinct audience segments, including new under-served targets.
Throughout his career, Doug has developed and managed successful strategic partnerships and marketing alliances with a number of high-profile partners, including NBC – Athens Summer Olympic Games and Torino Winter Olympic Games; the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences – Academy Awards, the Television Academy – Primetime Emmy Awards and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – Golden Globes Awards.
